The Full Process of Custom Made-Foot Orthotics

First, we set up an initial Appointment to assess our patient’s needs for Foot Care. If we determine Custom-Made Foot Orthotics are required, we will perform a 3D Volumetric Laser Scan of the Feet, while the patient is laying pron on their back, in a Non-Weight-Bearing position. Then once 3D Digital Laser Scan is initiated, it is then sent Electronically to the the lab, which then creates the Plaster of Paris Cast. And once the mold has set, it is then sent to the lab to create the Custom-Made Foot Orthotics. By the way, a little unknown fact, is that Plaster Casting was once one of the original methods for taking Measurements of the Feet and in fact, it set the stage as one of the Gold Standards of creating Custom-Made Foot Orthotics. However, with the updated digital technology of today, 3D Lasers are now readily available to scan the Feet digitally, thereby creating a 3D Digital Scan which is more widely available with almost instantaneous results, to be converted into Custom-Made Foot Orthotics. And Digital 3D Scanning is exceedingly quick in comparison to Plaster Casts, which have to be sent Physically to a Technician and then Technicians uses a Laser to take an Interior Scan of the cast.

How Long Does the Creation of Custom-Made Foot Orthotics Take?

Custom-Made Foot Orthotics are 100% Custom-Made from State of the Art Thermoplastics. Once the lab receives the Scan or Cast, they create a Model by Pouring Molten Plastic into a mold of your Feet, to form the Custom-Made Foot Orthotics for the patient. Seven to ten business days is normally the time it takes to manufacture Custom-Made Foot Orthotics, however, rush jobs are available if needed. If for any reason, a patient’s Custom-Made Foot Orthotics are not sitting comfortably, a follow-up Appointment is available for adjustments, at no extra charge, for up to 3 months!
